What does Rei-Defining Yoga Mean?

Welcome to my Blog. My name is Rita Linzi-Rei. Now maybe you might be seeing a connection between the name of my Blog and my surname, "Rei". I will elaborate.

I am a yoga teacher and a practitioner of yoga. It is my lifestyle not just a job. I started this blog as many bloggers out there do to share my point of view and share what I have learned with readers.

Now I am not trying to put a new name to yoga, brand a new style, re create an old one and duplicate so much of what is out there in the 'yoga marketplace' but rather use this space as an opportunity to express how I feel about what is going on out there in this world of what we call 'yoga'.

Why the heck would I play around and try to say re-defining yoga and appear to be cheeky. Well I am trying to be cheeky for starters, LOL and I wanted to get people's attention. Gotcha...but wait! Don't go yet!

Let me regress. "Rei". Besides my surname, translates to "universal" in the Japanese language. Yoga is universal. Yoga is for all. It also means King which is Royal and there is a path of yoga called Raja Yoga. Raja transalates to Royal. So I seized the opportunity to use my name in front of defining to create a platform in Blogger's world so I can write all those things about yoga that have been running through my mind and filling pages of my paper journals for some time.

Yoga is for all. Yoga is just not for the super flexible. Yoga is not just for women. Yoga is not just for meditating. Yoga is not just for asanas (doing postures) or very complicated, super tied up in a knot ones, Yoga is not a religion. Yoga does not have to be expensive. I can go on and on.

It is interesting to see the self imposed limits that are set by people that are brought about by lack of knowlege. I am being polite. I mean to say ignorance which by definition is lack of knowledge. These limits are set by fear and the ego and this extends into many facets of life.

It is with the practice of yoga that we lessen our grip on these limits and the ego lessens its grips on us and we can move through life with a little more equanimity. All of us. Not a selected few. All of us regardless of race, creed, colour, religion, sex, physical abilities, caste, income class, whatever......
